2010 Morgan Hill Sprint Triathlon Recap

One race down, and what a race it was. My goal was to have a good swim, until now the dark water has been my nemesis. Fast in the pool does not mean fast in open, dark water with no lane lines, lots of other swimmers all trying to round the same buoy. While my swim time was not fast, I swam strong and got the majority of open water bugs out of my system. The water was between 65-68 degrees, and it was a swim start this year, meaning you start from treading water. I had a good warm up: ran my 15 mins, stretched out, got my wetsuit on and headed down to warm up my swim.

With the swim out of the way I jumped onto my bike. My legs felt tired, but I knew it was all in my head and so the mental battle to race hard began. The bike course is beautiful, lots of rolling hills, a few sharp turns and a good 1/2 mile semi steep hill climb. My quads burned on the climb but Coach Ethan, from Fleet Feet in P-town, had given me some good advice and I was able to even pass a few guys on the hill.

The run was a simple 5 mile run, the way out was a slight up hill, which was good because of the flip side; the way back was a slight down hill. I love how my legs feel like jello when I first jump off my bike and I spend the first mile of my run waiting to actually feel my legs underneath me. I had a decent pace going and when my kick was super strong at the end I realized I could have put out more on the course. Each time I race I learn something new, and I look forward to the opportunity to do it all over again. Oh wait I will get to... nine more times!

Morgan Hill Sprint was a good first of ten races for me. More than anything I was excited that the fundraising front is going strong. Letters are out and there are some possible sponsorships in the works. I have $10,000 to raise and we aren't stopping until every penny is brought in. I am blessed to have the opportunity to raise money for the Flying T Youth Ranch. I'm not after an easy life, I am after an amazing life, stick with me friend, we have nine triathlons and $10,000 dollars ahead!
